Plenary Session Speakers
Justin Bates
barrister, landmark chambers 
Justin is a barrister at Landmark Chambers where he specialises in housing law; whether public or private sector, whether long leasehold, freehold or rented, if you can live in it, he litigates about it. He has appeared as advocate in all courts from the Supreme Court down to the Magistrates’ Court. Most of his life is currently spent dealing with cladding issues.
Anthony Kingdon

Anthony re-joined the Property Industry in 2015 as Business Development Manager at Mainstay, bringing a new customer service focussed approach to Service Charges and Block Management, to lead the industry away from the archaic 'the lease is the bible' type viewpoints.  Now a Director at the Ringley Group, responsible for their Northern operations from the Manchester office, Anthony has dealt with many complex, multi-level budgets, often unpicking confusing schedules and correcting previous management mix-ups.

Taking the lead with customer interactions, with current service charges budgets up to £2.7m per site, Anthony has handled a range of service charge collections, price and apportionment changes and resulting disputes with leaseholders across England and Wales.

Andrew Banister
regional director, earl kendrick
Andrew Banister launched Earl Kendrick’s northern office in Manchester in 2017, and now leads the firm’s work across the north and central England, working with clients in both the residential and commercial sectors. He has a passion for buildings, particularly those of historic, architectural or special importance, like the Manchester Town Hall and all its gothic features. But as well as appreciating the aesthetics of architecture, he also relishes the challenge of undertaking complex major works projects on buildings of any kind. His varied experience in the property business means he is able to view a project from both the surveyor’s and client’s perspective, to the benefit of all stakeholders. Andrew previously worked in the project management team of a major retailer, before moving into the leasehold sector. As a building surveyor, he has a strong background in the high-end residential sector. Andrew obtained his Degree in Building Surveying Nottingham Trent University and is a chartered building surveyor. Andrew is an APC Assessor for RICS and has recently gained Associate level qualification with the Institute of Fire Engineers.
Andrew Bull
Head of Client Services, 4site Consulting
Andrew heads up 4site Consulting’s Client Services Department; managing a team of Client Services and Logistics professionals. 4site Consulting are a Health and Safety Consultancy providing risk assessments, surveys and training for property and block managers across the whole of the UK.

Andrew has spent many years developing relationships and understanding the needs of Property Managers, Facility Managers and Leaseholders. This is a growing task, given the recent changes in safety legislation and requirements for the leasehold sector.
Dani Green
PARTNER, brethertons
Dani is a Partner in the Residential Leasehold team of Brethertons LLP. 
Dani's experience spans across a variety of residential leasehold areas where she assists a variety of clients including landlords, tenants, managing agents and management companies with their leasehold properties. 
Her work includes lease extensions, collective enfranchisements, right to manage claims, licences to alter and breach of lease disputes but to name a few. 
Dani understands the need to keep complex matters as straight forward as possible for her clients, to make it easy for them to understand their options and to be efficient in keeping them up to date throughout.
Elizabeth England 
barrister, five paper 
Elizabeth England is a barrister from Five Paper and a specialist landlord & tenant law, largely acting for social and private landlords. Elizabeth is recognised in the most recent edition of legal directories as a ‘Rising Star’ and quoted as being ‘very fierce and firm” when conducting advocacy on behalf of her clients.
Before joining the Bar in 2014, she qualified as a solicitor in 2008 and as a solicitor-advocate in 2012. In 2018 Elizabeth was listed in the ‘Hot 100’ feature by News on the Block as an influential landlord & tenant professional.
Elizabeth has a wealth of experience in property law and in 2005 was part of a government pilot scheme providing housing law advice via webcam to members of the public. Elizabeth is on the Consulting Editorial Board and a Contributing Author for Lexis Nexis in the area of social housing and residential landlord and tenant law. Elizabeth provides maintained educational resources on homelessness, possession and residential landlord and tenant matters. She is also a regular contributor to the Lexis Q&A facility.
Jack Seton 
Commercial & Client Relations Manager, flatguard 
2022 marks Jack Seton’s 18th year working in the insurance industry. Having worked in both the private and commercial insurance sectors, for the last 5 years Jack’s specialist focus has been within Real Estate, in particular Blocks of Flats. Firmly imbedded within the Residential Block Management industry, Jack helps his clients deliver bespoke property & leasehold insurance solutions via his dedicated broking team, FlatGuard.
James Purdey
OPERATIONS MANAGER, 4SITE CONSULTING
James is the Operations Manager at 4site Consulting, leading a growing team of 15 Assessors and Surveyors covering Fire Safety, Health & Safety, Asbestos and Legionella. Prior to this, James has hands on experience as a Health, Safety and Fire Risk Assessor and is also in the process of completing a Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management.

Joe Goss
ENTERPRISE SALES MANAGER, FIXFLO
Fixflo's resident block management expert, Joe Goss is an accredited IRPM member from his years of managing a plethora of listed buildings, mixed-use developments and M&E assets.
Joe's innate understanding of the operational challenges in effective, efficient and compliant block management practices allows him to help managing agents, board executives and block managers enhance their services with Fixflo's specialist maintenance management solutions.
Liz Rowen

Liz has worked in the property management industry for over 12 years and has amassed a wealth of experience in the sector. Liz can provide practical commercial advice on all matters relating to the residential leasehold field including lease extension, deeds of variation as well as litigated matters in both the First Tier Tribunal and County Court.

Mari Knowles
SOLICITOR, COMMONHOLD & LEASEHOLD EXPERTS
Mari is a solicitor and founder of Commonhold and Leasehold Experts Limited. The team at CLE specialise in all aspects of commonhold, freehold estate, and landlord and tenant laws. CLE has a keen interest in the ongoing reform agenda and regularly contributes to journals on the topic. Our team enjoy sitting on various panels such as the Law Society, IRPM, LMP and FPRA and is a member of ALEP and the Property Litigation Association. The team run a pro bono advice service for vulnerable leaseholders.

Martin Kent-Heath
Account director, deacon insurance 
Martin has more than 20 years’ experience in insurance, beginning in motor fleet before moving into the commercial and property markets. He has specialised in arranging cover for blocks of flats since 2018. Based in Cheshire, he moved to Deacon earlier this year to provide additional support to a growing client base in the Midlands and North of England.
Deacon, established in 1989 and now part of Gallagher, currently arranges cover for more than £15 billion pounds worth
of property and works with more than 300 property agents and factors nationwide.

Nicholas Grundy
BARRISTER, FIVE PAPER
Nicholas Grundy QC is a Property, Public Law and Human Rights specialist barrister from Five Paper. He is praised in the most recent edition of Chambers UK as “Magnificent. His advice and advocacy are impeccable and of the highest standard, and yet he retains the ability to communicate complex matters to solicitors and clients." Nick has been listed by both leading independent legal directories Chambers UK Bar and The Legal 500 Bar Guide as a leading individual for many years and was shortlisted for Real Estate, Environment and Planning Silk of The Year at The Legal 500 UK Awards 2020.
As well as acting in the precedent-setting case of Akerman-Livingstone v Aster Communities Ltd [2015] UKSC 15, the leading case on the test to be applied to discrimination defences, Nick has enjoyed a recent string of successes in the Court of Appeal.

More recently he has switched focus to the Property Industry and has seen exciting opportunities to disrupt how we work with the aim of improving the service we provide.
Rebecca Cattermole

Rebecca is a barrister at Tanfield Chambers, specialising in real property and all aspects of landlord and tenant law. She is recommended for Real Estate, Agriculture and Housing in Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners. Her cases have included the long- running litigation in Canary Riverside where she acted for the Tribunal appointed manager.  Rebecca is a published author, and a contributor to Service Charges & Management (Sweet & Maxwell).
Verity McMahon

Verity is an Senior Associate in the Residential Leasehold team of Brethertons LLP. Verity has specialised in Property and Land Law, particularly Leasehold Enfranchisement and Residential Leasehold Law for the whole of her legal career.  She has particular technical experience in claims made under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993 and Leasehold Reform Act 1967 and 1987. Verity regards herself as a highly organised, dedicated and approachable person, ensuring the extra mile is always taken to meet client’s requirements through a proactive approach.
Zainab Khatoon

Zainab has worked in the residential sector for over 11 years, starting out as an Account Manager when she first came to work in the property sector. She now heads Business Development at Realty Law. As a qualified solicitor of 7 years, she works closely with the firms’ operations team and plays a significant role in building and strengthening client relationships with a commercially focused pragmatic approach.
Zoe Smith

Zoe has recruited in the block/leasehold space for nearly 9 years, taking her enthusiasm and passion for the sector to the recent heights of launching One Property Recruitment.
